Resolving Result Set Contention in Heterogeneous Library Information Systems

چکیده
Federated databases are one of the challenges for database system builders. In an e ort to create these systems, current implementations require every member of the federation to agree to a particular standard. We examine query optimization under the Z39.50 standard for heterogeneous library information systems, looking speci cally at the problem of managing temporary relations within a library system limiting the number of these relations held by a single user. We propose a strategy which uses knowledge of the current user query and an approximation of a set of future user queries in order to choose which temporary relation is the least likely to be useful in answer the current and future queries. Simulation results indicate that this strategy, called Look-Ahead, performs better than strategies based on operating system concepts. Optimization of Data-Parallel Scientific Applications on Highly Heterogeneous Modern HPC Platforms
Over the past decade, the design of microprocessors has been shifting to a new model where the microprocessor has multiple homogeneous processing units, aka cores, as a result of heat dissipation and energy consumption issues. Meanwhile, the demand for heterogeneity increases in computing systems due to the need for high performance computing in recent years. The current trend in gaining high c...
متن کاملModelling and Experimental Testing of Asymmetric Information Problems in Lease and Hire Contracts (Based on Contract Theory)
This article aims to study lease and hiring contract in the Iranian-Islamic setting and analyze the asymmetric information problem in these contracts. For doing this, we study the characteristics of lease and hiring contracts in Iran (real world experimental characteristics that recognized in other studies), using library method, then we mathematically model different aspects of asymmetric info...
متن کاملModeling the Effects of Contention on the Performance of Heterogeneous Applications
Fast networks have made it possible to coordinate distributed heterogeneous CPU, memory and storage resources to provide a powerful platform for executing high-performance applications. However, the performance of parallel applications on such systems is highly dependent on the allocation and efficient coordination of application tasks. A key component for a performanceefficient allocation stra...
متن کاملMulti-representation Ontology in the Context of Enterprise Information Systems
In the last decade, ontologies as shared common vocabulary played a major role in many AI applications and information integration for heterogeneous, distributed systems. The problems of integrating and developing information systems and databases in heterogeneous, distributed environment have been translated in the technical perspectives as system’s interoperability. Ontologies, however, are f...
متن کاملA Polygen Model for Heterogeneous Database Systems: The Source Tagging Perspective
This paper studies heterogeneous database systems from the multiple (poly) source @rrt) perspective. It aims at addressing issues such as “where is the data from” and “which intermediate data sources were used to arrive at that data” issues which are critical to many users in utilizing information composed from multiple sources. Specifically, it presents a polygen model for resolving the Data S...
